Equus grevyi
The largest and most endangered of the three zebra species, Grevy’s zebra wears the narrowest stripes, a snow-white belly, and enormous round ears. Its stripes run all the way down the legs and end in a fine black-and-white ladder no two animals share.
Males hold scent-marked territories along rivers, where females with foals drink and graze in loose herds. Fewer than 3,000 remain in the wild, squeezed by drought, grazing competition with livestock, and a shrinking range.
