About
Giraffes use long necks and prehensile tongues to browse leaves beyond the reach of most herbivores. Their patterned coats help individuals blend into dappled woodland light and can be used to recognize one another. Habitat loss, fragmentation, and illegal hunting have reduced many populations despite the species remaining one of Africa’s best-known animals.
