About

With a wingspan that can top 1.8 meters and ear tufts raised like horns, the Eurasian eagle-owl is one of the world’s largest owls, and arguably its most formidable. Its deep two-note hoot rolls across valleys on still nights.

It is an apex night hunter, taking prey as large as hares, young foxes, and other owls, and striking with talons that grip with many times its own body weight in force. Pairs hold large territories for years, nesting on cliff ledges and in old quarries.
