The harpy eagle is one of the world’s most powerful eagles, built for maneuvering through dense rainforest rather than soaring over open country. Its huge talons can seize sloths and monkeys from the canopy. Because pairs need large territories and tall nesting trees, deforestation quickly reduces suitable habitat.
