About
Barn owls hunt mostly by sound, using asymmetrical ears and a heart-shaped facial disc to pinpoint prey in darkness. Soft feather edges make their flight exceptionally quiet. They often nest in tree cavities, cliffs, barns, and nest boxes, providing natural rodent control in farmland ecosystems.
