About

Smaller and stockier than the red kangaroo, the red-necked wallaby gets its name from the rusty wash on its nape and shoulders. It moves in a series of bounding hops of one to two meters, and can carry a joey in its pouch while hopping at full speed.

Solitary and shy, it shelters in forest cover by day and grazes in open clearings at dusk, a pattern that lets it share habitat with its larger cousin without competing head-to-head.
