Red-Eyed Tree Frog

Agalychnis callidryas, commonly known as the red-eyed tree frog, is a species of tree frog in the subfamily Phyllomedusinae, native to the forests of Central America and northwestern South America. One of the most recognizable frog species in the world, it is known for its vibrant coloration: a bright green body with blue and yellow stripes on the sides, a white underside, bright orange feet, and its namesake stunning red eyes.

Despite these striking bright colors, the red-eyed tree frog is not poisonous like many other brightly colored amphibians. The bold coloration likely provides camouflage against the green jungle foliage, and may also serve to provoke the startle reflex in predators, allowing the frog time to escape. Red-eyed tree frogs are arboreal and nocturnal, spending the day clinging to the underside of large leaves and becoming active at night to hunt for insects.
