Pine Marten

Pine martens are slender, tree-climbing mustelids with rich brown fur and a cream-yellow throat bib. They bound along branches after squirrels, voles, and berries, denning in tree hollows and old bird nests. Deforestation and predator control once shrank their range, but they are recovering in Scotland, Ireland, and Scandinavia — where they also suppress grey squirrels and so help red squirrels.
