About
Mule deer are named for their large mule-like ears and bounce away in a distinctive stotting gait with all four feet landing together. Males grow forked antlers that rebranch with age. Many herds migrate seasonally between summer mountains and winter ranges, and some undertake remarkable long-distance journeys now squeezed by fences, roads, and energy development.
