About
Koalas are arboreal marsupials that spend much of the day resting in eucalyptus trees. Specialized gut microbes help them digest tough, chemically defended leaves that few mammals can eat. Habitat clearing, disease, vehicle strikes, dog attacks, drought, and severe fires threaten many local populations.
