Victoria Crowned Pigeon

The Victoria crowned pigeon is the world's largest pigeon, a ground-dwelling bird of New Guinean rainforest with an elegant fan of lacy white-tipped crest feathers. Pairs and small groups walk the forest floor taking fallen fruit, and their loud booming calls carry through dense vegetation. Logging and hunting for plumes and food are shrinking populations, so it needs large tracts of intact forest to survive.
