About
The North Island brown kiwi is a flightless nocturnal bird with hairlike feathers and nostrils near the tip of its bill. It probes soil and leaf litter by smell, finding worms and invertebrates in the dark. Predation by introduced mammals remains the main threat to chicks and unmanaged populations.
